Adam,
See the folder Forest_Entomology on the server: there is a new subfolder “ADD TO DBimages”. Can you please add these to the database?
Here is the list of files, so you don’t have to write it all down by hand. Just add species numbers to those and add it to the Images table. If you are interested, I can show you how i did it.

vials from PNG
Adam,
Whenever you get to it, can you please fill up the PNG samples that just arrived with ethanol?
Afterwards, please record them in the database (as unknown spp.), and I will identify them.
Thank you!
poster to Fernando
Adam,
There is a poster on the desk in the back of my office. Will you please send it to Fernando Vega (the coffee berry borer expert at USDA-ARS)? Take a look at it – an example of Extension using Pidgin English from PNG 🙂

silverfish
Adam,
Please move shoe boxes (containing specimens) from my office into the cupboards in the student office, and put mite paper under them.
Also, please ask someone (Kate?) at DPI what drawers they are using and what they would recommend to buy.
Thanks!
receipts to ENY
Adam,
There is a bunch of Pcard forms and receipts on my desk that need to be submitted to the Entomology Dept. for processing. I don’t know exactly who should receive them, but i hope you can figure it out and drop them off there. It’s for the Bark beetle academy.
I will be gone until June 18, so please explain to them the situation.
Thanks!
RNAlater
Adam,
Two related things:
– could you please buy 500 ml of RNAlater from LifeTechnologies (catalog # AM7021)?
– do we have red caps for our 5ml cryovials? Or some other color than yellow? I would like to get a different color (ideally red) and prepare cryovials marked with this different color containing RNAlater. I assume that 500 ml will provide enough for about 150 vials.
-When ready, can you give a third to Craig, a third to Andrew, and leave a third in the freezer?
This is all in preparation for a project where we will use RNA to characterize fungal communities inside ambrosia beetles.

book to Portugal
Adam,
there is a book on my desk “Monograph of Xyleborini…” that needs to be sent to:
Miguel A. Alonso-Zarazaga (Dr)
Depto. de Biodiversidad y BiologÃa Evolutiva
Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales
Jose Gutierrez Abascal, 2
E-28006 Madrid
SPAIN
We were to send it as a gift with no value, otherwise the Spanish customs will try to tax it very high.
Thank you!
couple things
Adam,
Would you be able to stop at my office? Couple of things i would like to ask you (no particular order):
– I need to plane wood planks with ambrosia beetle damage for teaching purposes. Does SFRC have a fine planer? Let’s talk when you are around.
– Would you please give me rights to post to the forest pathology listserv? I don’t need to be on the actual list, I just want to communicate with the Smith lab.
– Would you add your profile to the Hulcr Lab website? http://www.ambrosiasymbiosis.org/researchers/ You may not have access, in which case please ask Rhiannon.
– Would you please work with Sedonia to get her into the list of students on the website? If she can provide some text and a couple of images, will you put it on the website? If she wants to do it herself that’s great, but please encourage her.
– The function that should notify you when i post something here still doesn’t seem to work. Can you please talk to Rhiannon about that?
– Would you be able to get your draft of the forest pesticide list to me?
Thank you!
J
Insecticide list
Adam,
If you feel like you have a couple of extra minutes one of these days, would you be able to re-start the preliminary work on the list of pesticides for forest pests? Thanks, J.
